BMP Selection. The pollutant to be controlled is the major factor in BMP selection.
Additional factors include the cost of the BMP and the acceptance by the farmer and the farm
community. Practice selection is often times social, whereby farmers often rely on the experience of
their neighbors when selecting BMPs. Practices that fit well into the operation and have high reliability
and low maintenance are often preferred (see Table 4.2.7).
